Project Update

September 7th, 2010

Just an update on the project. The weather is getting better and I hope to be flying in the next couple of weeks. I’ve been using RealFlight training simulator to help me prepare as it’s been some time since I’ve flown. I intend to buy a keyring camera to record the ‘learning curve’ :)  As I recently annouced the Electrafun has been selected as the development airframe and over the last couple of weeks, I’ve been atempting to learn RhinoCAD so that I can design the fuselage modifications. I hope to show some renders soon.

Project Update

August 18th, 2010

Well you may have noticed that things have been updated around the site. Still continuing to update and considering some minor layout changes. Some  have arrived from Sparkfun including some for the video tracker.

Will get to soldering tomorrow and an update will follow soon after.

FPVProject.net Returns

August 9th, 2010

As you may have noticed the site hasn’t been updated in quite sometime. There are a number of reasons as to why this is the case. I’ve been having issues with my web hosts since the end of last year and since January have been unable to access the site from my home or work ISP’s which has made updating the site practically impossible. We attempted to solve the problem but we were unable to come up with a solution. I have now changed to a new host and once again I can access it from home.

No progress has really been made project since my last post. I really lost inspiration and things outside of the project started to take up more and more of my time. So where are we at ? Well a few posts ago I revealed that I had ordered an Attopilot. Unfortunately this order was eventually cancelled. It was a bad time to be trying to buy an Attopilot as the retail division was being transferred to a different company which made communication difficult and lead to delays. Full credit to Dean and Chris though for the excellent customer service.

The project is still plagued with the same issues and the biggest one by far is a place to fly. It’s easy enough to find a park to fly in but these are way too small for use with an autopilot. I have identified some possible sites on Google Earth and will need to take a drive out to check them out. The other issue is airframe. Attopilot does not support aircraft without ailerons and Ardupilot originally didn’t support these aircraft either. Ardupilot then moved to being based around the Easystar but with the Mega looks to be heading towards 4 channel again. I have some plans for this so  stay tuned for updates in this area.

Over the next week or so I will be updating the site a bit. I am still considering an entire site change including a new name but we will see. In the mean time this one will do :) I plan to change the direction of the site somewhat. I want to focus on getting into UAVs from the ground up, from some who has never been into RC before. On RCGroups and DiyDrones people frequently jump in and asks questions about the hobby who have never done anything like this and quite often, have no idea what’s involved in getting started. It’s been over a year since I flew one of my planes so it will take me a while to get back into it. There is an order from Sparkfun on its way so expect some updates about that and watch out for changes around the site. Thanks to all the readers for continuing to support the site.
